kananaskis adjustable perfect wave
The Kananaskis adjustable wave will be a perfect 8m wide wave that can change shapes including lefts, rights, bowls, A-frames and straight waves. Completion is planned for 2022. The adjustable wave will inform and improve the waves in Cochrane and Calgary. The total remaining cost including construction is $420k. All donations from the button below go to detailed engineering and construction.
calgary river wave park
The Calgary River Wave Park will generate $5M+ a year in new economic activity in Calgary. The wave will be 30m wide, include a water trail and supporting facility. Completion is between 2024 and 2029. We are at the preliminary engineering phase. The total project cost is expected to be just under $10M including 30% contingency. All donations from the button below go towards preliminary engineering and managed by Parks Foundation Calgary.
Donations over $100 receive a tax receipt. Select Calgary River Wave Park from the drop down project list. All funds go towards preliminary engineering.
Cochrane River wave park
The Cochrane River Wave Park will generate $5M+ a year in new economic activity in Cochrane. The wave will be 20m wide, include a water trail and supporting facility. We are at the preliminary engineering phase. Completion is between 2024 and 2029. The total project cost is expected to be just under $10M including 30% contingency.
Project details will be available soon through Cochrane Tourism.

Here are the current wave projects under development:
CAlgary river wave park (10 StREEt wave) Development
The Alberta River Surfing Association and Surf Anywhere are working on building a world class 35 metre wide wave in downtown Calgary.
Having completed our feasibility study for the project, we’ve now partnered with Parks Foundation Calgary to support the development of the River Wave Park, including plans for a new Surf YYC Facility planned for 2021 and will feature change rooms, gear, lessons and events, as well as pop-up food and drink. To learn more, visit our complete project page.

kananaskis Mountain wave Improvements
The Alberta River Surfing Association and Surf Anywhere partnered to build and maintain the Mountain wave. The most recent wave build was in May 2019, with a partial approval for a second wave underway. In addition to creating another wave, we have plans to build an adjustable wave structure at both the current Mountain wave and the new, upcoming second wave.
We are currently working on grant applications for funding, as well as the modelling and engineering of this new adjustable feature, set to to be complete for Summer 2022.
This new adjustable functionality will create an 8m wide, perfect wave under all flows except flood and no flow.
Our Development Plan for this project includes:
Research into ideal adjustable wave design with Surf Anywhere and University of Ottawa (March 2020 to Feb 2021)
Grant application for engineering (Sep 2020)
Engineering and permit submissions (Spring 2021)
Construction depending on permit timelines (Spring 2022 or 2023)
Want to help us continue to improve our Mountain wave? Contact us today to donate to the cause.
second kananaskis wave Construction
In addition to the current Mountain wave, we continued our partnership with Surf Anywhere to create a second wave downstream from the Cliff.
Adding a second wave to the Mountain will provide additional space for surfers to ride and community to gather, furthering encouraging the growth and awareness of the sport.
We are currently working on plan for river modifications with other river user groups and Alberta Parks.
Our Development Plan for this project includes:
Create long term plan for Lower Kananaskis River wave and whitewater design with other river users. (2021)
Arrange boulder donations that will be used for matching grants. (2021)
Complete engineering and submit permitting (2022).
Construction will be as early as we are allowed by Parks. (2024)
Pumped for a second Mountain wave? Donate to the project and help us build this new spot to ride.
Cochrane River Wave Park (TBD)
We have completed a feasibility study Surf Anywhere and are now awaiting confirmation that this project can proceed.
If project proceeds, we will work to demonstrate and build support for this project, locally and regionally.
