The Alberta River Surfing Association (ARSA) was founded in 2005 and incorporated in 2011 as an Alberta registered not-for-profit.  The Alberta RSA is recognized by Surf Canada as the Alberta Provincial Sports Organization for surfing. The ARSA built and maintains the river surfing waves in Alberta.

Mission

Our mission is to create lasting surfing in Alberta that is of excellent quality, improves/protects the environment and makes life in Alberta better. The most critical work of the Alberta River Surfing Association is to build lasting, safe and high quality river waves.  The ARSA has a number of primary objectives including to:

  • Build, protect, operate and maintain surfing waves and associated facilities

  • Protect and/or improve the environment near surfing areas

  • Develop Alberta surf tourism through creation of good surf waves with urban and mountain beaches

  • Improve and develop surfing safety standards and practices

  • Improve the experience of surfing

  • Develop casual and competitive surfing athletes of all ages

  • Promote the sport of surfing

  • Hold surfing competitions and events

  • Build public awareness and support for surfing

  • Ensure equipment and services needed by surfers are available

  • Raise funds to achieve these objectives

While achieving these objectives, we foster a strong community in Alberta with positive & constructive values in the water and out.

Vision

Our vision for surfing in Alberta is build river surfing waves in all of the major cities in Alberta. We see these waves as major cultural anchors the bring people together and improve economies. We see these waves as ways to connect people to rivers and to educate people on the high value of our river environments. We see Alberta youth learning about rivers and surfing in our province and developing a life long passion for water and surfing. We see young Albertans training hard at surfing and representing Alberta & Canada as Olympic and professional surf athletes.
